Luneng Business Development Centre  @ KPF - '03

Beijing, China

Limited international competition. The brief called for a scheme with both solidity and lightness that embues the monumentality of its neighbouring blocks but also radiates the openness and energy of new China.
The proposed design consists of 2 separate buildings which, in their canted geometry recall the battered outer walls of the forbidden city. Clad in stone on the east west facades which act as solid bookends, inbetween are 2 slim glass volumes around a central wedge bringing southern sun to an ancient temple on the north of the site. A 'sailing' roof form encloses  a ground level courtyard connecting the 2 office buildings.

I was involved in developing model studies for design team meetings & preparing presentation drawings for the competition entry.
